There are competing clichés you have to contend with out there if you’re trying to use free dateing sites to find love. The first: you get what you pay for. The second: the best things in life are free. So, which one is correct and which is for the birds?
Well, both of them can be correct – they’re not mutually exclusive. However, many people joining free dating sites find out that they are really only getting what they pay for – nothing! Unless, that is, they fork over some big bucks with the hidden charges and between-the-line rhetoric that wasn’t clear on the homepage.
If you want to use a free dating site, then that’s exactly what you have to find. Beware of those sites out there claiming to be free but charging you on the backend.
On completely free dating sites be on the lookout for…
Contact Features
A dating site that’s completely free won’t charge you for contact features. Almost every dating site out there will allow you to create a profile and browse the site for free, but then they’ll charge you in order to contact other members or to have members contact you. Make sure you read the site’s TOS and payment info before you bother signing up to make sure it’s really free.
Free “Trials”
For the most part, free trials are a scam. First off, they almost always require that you enter your credit card information for “verification,” and then, somehow, you can never contact them to cancel before the trial expires. Then you’re on the hook for an outrageous sum, sometimes recurring. A free trial isn’t a free site, so don’t be fooled.
Upgraded Status
A lot of sites out there will give you around 90% run of the roost and list you as a Silver member, for example. You won’t have to pay a penny. But as we all know, silver may be nice, but it pales in comparison to gold. What they really want you to do is sign up for the Gold membership, and you won’t get to use the site’s best features unless you do. So be weary of these types of free dating sites if you were expecting to use the entire shebang completely free.
