According to reality TV these days, fishing for crab or working in a scrap yard is considered to be a “hard” job. Well, if they’re really trying to find a taxing and stressing job, they need to look no further than single parenthood. Being a single parent leaves you little time to enjoy that all important “me” time – and, unfortunately, that includes finding new love.
Luckily, however, online dating sites do provide single parents with an opportunity to play the singles game like everyone else, all while still keeping up with parenting responsibilities on the home-front.
To all the single parents out there thinking about using online dating sites to play the dating game, try these tips out to fluidly incorporate the hunt for love into your life as a parent.
1: Keep it at home
There are many different types of singles sites out there you can use, many of which operate on a looser standard. For example: you meet someone Thursday night and plan a date for Saturday evening. Well, this isn’t the type of “dating” you want to do. You want to keep it at home until you’re sure. Build a rapport with this person and make sure it feels right before proceeding.
2: Protect yourself
Not to put you off of Internet dating, but there are some unsavory characters using online dating sites just like you’ll find through all walks of life. Make sure you know who you’re talking to and take steps to “prove” who they are. Unfortunately, some predators out there are on the prowl for single parents – and it’s not the parents they want.
3: Day dates are your best friend
When you finally meet someone worth entertaining at one online dating site, try and skip the highly romanticized dinner-and-movie date. Try going out on day date. This different look and feel creates an atmosphere where getting to know someone is on the mind more than going home with someone. Since you’ve been bottled up with responsibility, your inclination may be to let loose on a night date. Keep things slow and simple in the start and spend the day with your potential mate.
