Even couples happily in love have their problems. There’s no avoiding them. Whether it’s from online dating or a match truly made in heaven, people are individuals and have their own quirks and hang-ups.
Sometimes, though, things you think might be a problem for your mate are actually no problem at all. After an embarrassing night he’ll never forget, Jake now knows Nina is tolerant of some of his problems.
Jake and Nina met on one of those popular dating sites and immediately hit it off. Both single, both successful and driven, both sharing the same appreciation for Mexican food and horror movies, it only took the pair three weeks before deciding to move out of the online realm and into the real world.
The date: the proverbial dinner and a movie. Jake drove in excess of 60 miles for this Friday night fling, and he wasn’t about to leave anything to chance.
On his way to Nina’s apartment to pick her up, Jake decided that eating a shrimp roll from the Chinese stand in the mall wasn’t much of a big deal. He stopped off to pick up some flowers for Nina, and a little appetizer before dinner wouldn’t hurt. He didn’t want to come across as a pig at the restaurant, after all.
Nina welcomed Jake with a big smile and a bigger hug when he knocked on the door. She loved the flowers, blushed brighter than the red roses, and gladly hopped into the car on their way to Jalisco’s Mexican Eatery for a nice dinner.
Jake wasn’t really hungry after the large shrimp roll he had eaten 30 minutes earlier, but something about carne asada was impossible for him to turn down.
After a nice dinner, they headed to the local theater at Nina’s instruction to watch the latest horror flick.
While in the theater, Jake’s stomach began to churn a mile a minute. The hot beef and salty shrimp were not getting along. After trying to hold back the building bomb in his belly, Jake finally couldn’t wait any longer. He stutteringly told Nina, “I-I have to g-go to the bathroom,” and proceeded to stand up and leave his mark on the theater.
The audience could hear Jake’s exit 10 rows back, and anyone in the vicinity got the type of 3D smell-o-vision nobody wants.
Embarrassed, Jake asked a hysterically laughing Nina if they could leave the theater. Nina agreed, laughing and joking with Jake by making the “P-U” face and farting noises, and the two made their exit amidst the glare of 200 eyes.
Nina didn’t think ill of Jake over the incident. A little upset stomach wasn’t enough to break the bond their formed through online dating. But Jake did learn a valuable lesson: always wait until dinner to eat on a date.
