Rules for Dating: Common Sense Reigns

Posted & filed under Articles.

Dating is a ritual that has been observed since the previous eras. This ritual is also a game that should be played fairly and equally. There are many dating tips out there, and if you sift through those dating tips to find the right ones, the dating experience will be a success.

Dating etiquette primarily involves common sense. Treat your date how you would treat your grandmother or grandfather and be attentive, friendly, and courteous. All of these are necessary for a successful date. Be honest because lies would only pile up until there is no way to keep track of them. Be open, generous, and above all, show respect to your date.

A person should keep their expectations at a realistic level. That knight in shining armor or princess won’t necessarily be coming around the corner; however, every date should be approached with good intentions and manners. Your date will actually remember your dating manners more than anything else.

The most important part of these dating tips is to pay complete attention to your date. Cell phones are a definite no-no. Even if the other person is using his or her cell phone, be courteous. Ogling at passers-by is also a definite no-no when it comes to the proper dating manners.

Any one would get turned off quickly if his or her date looks like he or she is undressing a passer by with his or her eyes. It’s not just rude, but more importantly, it also puts a major gap within the conversation and makes a person feel like maybe they are not good enough. That attitude is a major date killer.

Another tip for dating is to always be on time, no matter the circumstances. Do not beg off when you know the other person is already waiting for you, it’s rude. Tardiness shows lack of respect. Standing someone up not only makes the other person to feel inferior; it also makes them dislike you. Not a good way to start a date.

One good thing to do is to keep the date light and fun. No one likes a complainer and no one really likes having ideals shoved down their throats. Dates are just a prelude to deeper, meaningful relationships; ideals need only be spoken of later. Saying “please” and “thank you” is definitely a part of the general dating etiquette. These small courtesies will make the dating experience more memorable for both of you.

Dating manners and dating etiquette are both essential attributes of any good date and of any good relationship.
