Love makes us do strange things. When people say that love is blind they mean that when you are so deeply in love with someone, rational and logical thinking go out the window. When this happens, it seems as though people are thinking with their hearts and no brains.
A perfect example of this is when you are in love with someone who is using you. All your friends can see what’s going on but you seem to be blind to it, regardless of warnings from those around you.
The reason we can’t tell what’s really going on is because our love for a certain person makes us feel different inside, an emotion that cannot be ignored, and that can be fed only by having that certain someone around.
So, is love blind?
To answer the question of is love really blind, we can look at an abusive relationship in which a man hits a woman, promising never to do it again and that he loves her. This is often followed by over intense shows of love and devotion toward the victim, who in turn reciprocates by forgiving him and admitting her love.
Herein lies the lack of logic. It is also common that the abuser will apologize and admit that he loves his partner as well even though acts violently towards her.
Another way to look at it
The mediums of social pressure like beauty magazines as well as movies and television, create illusions of love and we begin to see ourselves acting in strange ways. Or at least we would if we looked at our actions. We fall in love with the idea of love more than we fall in love with an actual partner.
Separating fact from fiction can be hard when it comes to love; figuring out if someone is only in a relationship with you for personal gain can be a painful process. It takes a strong person to take a step back and take a good look at what is going on in the relationship; to open their eyes and to finally see reality for what it is.
Ask yourself if you are truly happy with the person you are with. Have you allowed love to blind you in ways that detract from your life instead of improve it? If it has, take stock and do something about it before it is too late.
