If you’re a woman using free dating sites as a way to meet a new guy, it’s inevitable that your past relationship(s) is/are going to come up. There’s really no way around it. Of course, you shouldn’t be the one to bring it up but, more than likely, he’s going to eventually ask the question about what brings you here. And then the whole past begins to unravel.
When you’re using free dating sites to meet new guys, be sure that you play it as touch-and-go as you possibly can when speaking about your ex. There are certain things—many things—guys do not want to hear about your ex-boyfriends.
What not to say about your ex boyfriend
He was a good guy
Telling your current boyfriend that your ex was a good guy or that everyone liked him is basically saying “I hold him on the same level as you.” Obviously, flaming him and saying how much you hate him (even if it isn’t true) isn’t exactly desired, but showing him in a good light is kind of off-putting.
He made a lot of money
This one is totally emasculating. Guys definitely do not want to hear that your ex made a lot of money. Now he’s always going to be worried that he’s not making enough money to keep you happy. This can doom a relationship.
He broke my heart
At first glance, you might think that a guy actually wants to hear this if it’s the truth, since it seems to bode well for your new beau. But it’s actually a damning statement. It makes your current guy think that you’re holding onto baggage from your past relationship and are perhaps only looking to “rebound.”
He is doing great
This one should be fairly obvious. It makes it seem as if you’re keeping tabs on your ex. To your current boyfriend, this will drive him absolutely nuts, and the trust issues will begin too early to recover from.
