Anyone using a free dating site probably fantasizes about finding true love, falling into each other’s arms and living happily ever after. For many people, this will become a reality. For others, however, that spark will never ignite to burn so wildly.
There are a lot of cases out there where a guy falls head over heels for the girl but the girl, while still liking the guy, doesn’t exactly feel the same way. What do you do when he’s in love with you and you feel you’re better off as friends?
This is an extremely complicated issue and can easily leave someone very hurt. But it happens, unfortunately. A free dating site isn’t a guaranteed romance, and it’s easy to mistake friendship for something else given the format.
If you’ve met a guy who loves you but you don’t feel the same way, the best way to handle this is to do it quickly but still gently.
A lot of people wait and wait to do this and it essentially leads the guy on and makes the break infinitely worse. For example: the guy drops the proverbial “I love you” and the girl doesn’t nip it in the bud. Instead, she just smiles and giggles and tries to change the subject.
Maybe the guy catches the hint and realizes the feelings are not reciprocated. But maybe he doesn’t catch the hint and figures you’re not saying it because you’re not ready. In this case, his feelings only grow stronger as he tries harder to win your heart.
If you’re not feeling the same way, you need to break the news to him at the first sign of love. Tell him immediately that, while it’s very sweet and flattering, you’re simply not on that level and will not be anytime soon.
If it’s not going anywhere and he’s not willing to slow down and take a step back, then you have to get out of there. Sure, if he’s a great guy you’d love to feel the same way about him. But you cannot make yourself love anyone and, in fact, shouldn’t even try.
You’re not going to avoid any hurt feelings here, but you may avoid a long and drawn-out process by correcting the situation as it arises.
